Sunshine Coast Creative Writing Institute

about us

Established on land that has held stories and their makers for thousands of generations, the Sunshine Coast Creative Writing Institute (Write on the Coast) is the realisation of a dream. Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is an ideal place for those who love words to find inspiration.

We offer a range of courses, workshops, and events focusing on a multitude of genres and run by established writers and story-makers who share the passion and value of stories.

Our vision is of an inspired local literary community; our purpose then is to inspire and support Sunshine Coast story-makers through a network of readers, writers, storytellers and community partners.

A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well, they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper.
From A Few Words to a Young Writer, by Ursula K Le Guin, 2008

Our board manages the logistics; our facilitators are there to help you bring your stories out of hiding and into the world.

I highly recommend Paul and Shelley as guides along the path of the memoir-writing process; they are able to deliver helpful strategies but also provide a lovely nurturing and encouraging space to explore our memories in our writing.
